How to stick with your New Year’s Resolutions

Many individuals make New Year’s resolutions and according to BusinessInsider 2016, over 80% fail at keeping their resolutions.

There are many reasons why some people don’t maintain their resolutions, from unrealistic goals, too large of a lifestyle change, financial reasons, schedule conflicts and lack of enthusiasm or motivation.

Mile High Gracie Jiu-Jitsu has all of those covered for you!

What if I can’t keep up?
Our Jiu-Jitsu program allows all individuals of all types and health levels participate and progress at your own pace. There is no race to the top here, just move at your own pace and towards your own goals. (note: It usually takes the average practitioner about 10 years to reach black belt, you have plenty of time).

What if I’m not athletic?
Although Jiu-Jitsu may be viewed as a combat sport and plays a major role in MMA events like the UFC, Jiu-Jitsu is a low impact art. “Jiu-Jitsu” actually translates to “gentle art.” It revolves around mostly grappling techniques and take-downs, there is no striking such as punches or kicks.
You don’t need to be a sculpted athlete or have ironman-like conditioning to start Jiu-Jitsu. That will all come in time. The art allows you to take advantage of your body style, work with your fitness as it is, and a lot of Jiu-Jitsu is mental. Some say it is like “physical chess.” We have all types of people training with us, from 5 year old children, students, military personnel and vets, to business professionals, both men and women.

What about costs?
We offer some of the lowest rates for Jiu-Jitsu in the Colorado front-range area. It’s usually lower than most conventional gym memberships. We also do not require long-term contracts, and we do not have extra fees or penalties. You can hold your membership or cancel anytime! You will not be locked-in to any contract.View our prices here.

What if I’m too busy?
We offer 2 primary memberships for adults: 2 Days per week, for those with busier schedules, or full Unlimited for those who have time for more progressive training.
We offer various classes throughout the week and weekend. Many of our students have full-time jobs, go to school or both, and we understand that it can be hard to make it to class with our busy lives. We have devised a schedule and memberships to provide you with several accommodating options.View our schedule here.

What if I’m not excited about it?
Some people’s New Year’s resolutions involve activities that may not be exciting or “fun” and can lose momentum very soon. Jiu-Jitsu is very dynamic and there are so many aspects of it that it will be rare to get bored, or not be motivated to do it. There is always something new to learn and you are improving yourself in various areas along the way. Almost everyone that trains with us feels it is “addicting” and they cannot wait to return to their next class. Not only is it a great way to get fit and improve your health, lose weight, but it also has practical self-defense applications as well.

What if I don’t work or live that close to the gym?
We are located just 10-15 minutes west of central downtown. We are just off of some of the main roadways such as Wadsworth (N-S) and Colfax (E-W) which make it very quick and convenient to get to, by car, cycling or even via public transportation such as RTD bus. Our location is also accessible via the RTD Light Rail West line, with a station just a couple blocks away. If we are not close to your work, school or home, then there is likely another Jiu-Jitsu gym nearby. Even if you don’t join Mile High Gracie, we hope you find a good school near you to begin your Jiu-Jitsu journey.

So, you now have NO EXCUSES to start Jiu-Jitsu for your New Year’s Resolution for 2018!

We hope to see you on the mats! If not ours, hopefully you find a place that suits your needs.
