Jiu-Jitsu instructor helps subdue unruly passenger on Frontier flight

There was a recent incident on a Frontier airlines flight where an unruly passenger attempted to open the emergency exit door while the plane was in flight thousands of feet in the air.

Fortunately, there was a passenger onboard who was also a Jiu-Jitsu instructor. This was a unfortunate yet great example of how he was able to utilize his jiu-jitsu skills to help control and subdue the unruly passenger while the flight attendant placed hand restraints on him. This passenger also attempted to break into the cockpit and even attempted to choke an off-duty flight attendant.

We hope we never have to use our skills in the wild, but it is good to know that jiu-jitsu can help prepare you to handle unfortunate incidents such as this, and you can do it in a non-violent manner without any striking such as punches or kicks.

You just never know what or who may be a possible threat out there. And it is likely more of an edge case verse more common, but it is good to know that we train to help prepare ourselves to handle these types of unexpected situations.

Remember, one of the best skills for personal self defense is awareness of your surroundings. Be aware of who and what may be around you at all times. You do not need to be stressed, anxious or paranoid, just be aware.
